Former Rivers State governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has pledged his allegiance to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and thrown his support behind the potential candidacy of Dr. Bukola Saraki for the position of PDP National Chairman. This move comes as influential PDP members aim to persuade Saraki to lead the party, positioning it strategically for the 2027 general elections.

Truth Live News findings indicate that senators and governors within the PDP are actively encouraging Saraki to take on this leadership role, recognizing his capacity to rejuvenate the party. Nyesom Wike’s recent meeting with Saraki is seen as a step in this direction. Notably, Wike, currently serving in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, has expressed his commitment to the PDP and his intention to work within the party to bolster its strength.

Wike’s group has emphasized their determination to remain within the PDP and retain their influence. To achieve this, they plan to engage with the power dynamics within the party, particularly in shaping its future leadership.

The urgency behind this move is attributed to the rapidly progressing effort to elect Saraki as the party’s chairman. Those backing Saraki believe he possesses the qualities needed to unite the PDP and rebuild it. Furthermore, his reputation as a bridge builder and his potential to be a neutral figure in party matters are seen as invaluable.

Although there is pressure on Saraki to lead the party, he has not made a definitive decision, and some are waiting for the Supreme Court’s verdict on the presidential election before proceeding. Nonetheless, members of the PDP are aligned in their objective to address the party’s leadership crisis and promote reconciliation.

Bukola Saraki’s credentials, including his past roles as Senate President, Governor of Kwara, and Director-General of the 2019 PDP campaign, position him as a strong contender for the role of PDP National Chairman. His political acumen and ability to foster unity within the party make him a promising candidate to lead and unify the PDP.
