Lucky Obukohwo Reporting
The Management of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ITSH) has said that the management of Arise Television has goofed in its report where it said that the hospital had commissioned an uncompleted building project.
The hospital, in its press statement titled “Rejoinder on the alleged commissioning of the uncompleted project by the management of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital as aired by Arise Television”, signed by its Director of Administrator, Oboh T.A for the Acting Medical Director, Prof. Reuben Agbonyosoria Eifediyi and made available to newsmen in Benin, said the media house has chosen to mislead the public with its unverifiable reports about the institution.
Prof. Eifediyi, while reacting to the said report, said it has come to the notice of the Management of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, that the Management of Arise Television aired news on 1 August 2023 alleging that “the former Minister of Health, former Board Chairman of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, and former Chief Medical Director of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, commissioned projects which were uncompleted. i.e. construction of the Children Emergency Isolation Ward and construction and furnishing of Anatomic Pathology (both are ongoing Projects).
Eifediyi said this information was said to have been obtained from an inside source by Arise Television presenter.
The Prof. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology said it is disheartening to have noted that the Arise TV reporter did not correctly investigate before airing such sensitive and damaging news about the institution.
The Professor said this could be said to have been an outcome of mischief makers tarnishing the image of the Hospital and those concerned.
The acting CMD, while setting the record straight, said the Hospital Management, in 2022, awarded the projects for the construction of the children’s Emergency/isolation Ward to the Firm Progressive Educational Services Nigeria Limited, construction and furnishing of anatomic pathology to the firm Hassino Group/Global LTD,
He pointed out that these two projects were under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, who were also consultants to the projects.
He said the abovementioned projects are ongoing and at an estimated 60 per cent completion stage.
He maintained that the projects were never commissioned at any time as they are ongoing.
He also refuted the claim that the Hospital is in a dilapidated state and that there was no fraud as regards these projects or any other.
He added that as of June, when the pictures were alleged to have been taken, there were no such plaques on the building. Consequently, the Hospital Management insist on retracting these unverified allegations, which attempt to mislead the general public.
The acting CMD of the hospital further said that he would gladly welcome the management of Arise Television and others who are interested in the investigations of the uncompleted commissioned projects.
