Osogbo, Osun State, has been rocked by the tragic story of a 46-year-old driver, Muftau Abiodun Musa, who ended his life after enduring relentless pressure from family members to get married.
According to reports, Musa, who had no wife or children, battled severe depression for over five years. He left a chilling note for whoever discovered his remains, urging them not to cry over his demise and providing contact information for his family.
This wasn’t the first time Musa attempted to take his life. In December 2024, neighbors thwarted his attempt to hang himself, and he was hospitalized for two months after drinking insecticide and pesticide in another failed attempt. Despite these warning signs, the pressure from his family to marry never ceased.
Leadership Newspapwr reported that after moving into a new apartment in May 2024, Musa faced further challenges when the landlord asked him to vacate by the end of January 2025. Three days before the tragic incident, he was reminded to leave, which reportedly deepened his depression, leading to his decision to hang himself.
The Osun State Police Command has taken over the investigation, but Musa’s heartbreaking story raises critical questions about societal expectations, mental health, and the devastating impact of unrelenting pressure.
