An Ekiti State High Court sentenced 71-year-old Sule Adeola to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl.
The victim, living with her grandmother, was violated repeatedly between 2021 and 2023. She initially kept quiet due to Adeola’s threats.
Prosecutor Julius Ajibare presented four witnesses and evidence, including Adeola’s statement and medical reports. Justice Blessing Ajileye found Adeola guilty, stating, “The prosecution proved penetration, the essential ingredient of rape.”
Adeola, a neighbor of the victim’s grandmother, was convicted under Section 31(1) of Ekiti State’s Child’s Right Law.
The judge expressed sadness at the rising cases of sexual assault, emphasizing, “The defendant penetrated the victim, and I find him guilty. You are here by sentenced to life imprisonment”.
