The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, has confirmed that electricity supply is being restored gradually across parts of the Southeast following the collapse of the national grid on Monday, January 23, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, EEDC’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, said the grid disturbance occurred at about 12:40 p.m., leading to a widespread blackout within the company’s coverage areas.
According to Ezeh, the outage affected sections of Abia State, including Umuahia, as well as Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo states.
He explained that the disruption was caused by the failure of the national grid.
He added that restoration efforts are already underway.
“Gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, and we are working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth and timely return of electricity to all affected locations,” Ezeh stated.
TRUTH LIVE NEWS reports that the Nigerian Independent System Operator had earlier announced that power recovery had started in different parts of the country following the grid collapse.
