Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is intensifying efforts to tackle insecurity, expressing confidence that the challenge will soon be overcome.
Akpabio gave the assurance on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, while receiving members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, led by its National President, Dr. Lima Ahmed, during a courtesy visit to the National Assembly in Abuja.
His remarks were contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom.
Nigeria has continued to grapple with widespread insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and communal violence, with several states recording deadly attacks and mass abductions in recent months. The Federal Government has repeatedly pledged to restore security through intensified military operations and other interventions.
Speaking during the visit, Akpabio said the recent rescue of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the country’s security challenges.
“As Nigerians, we are all aware of the insecurity challenges that we are currently facing. All I can say is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is giving the situation his utmost attention, and that is what led to the recent release of the schoolchildren who were abducted in Oyo State,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the government’s ongoing efforts would soon produce lasting results.
“The current administration is doing a whole lot. I can assure you that very soon, the issue of security will be a thing of the past. Don’t rely on what you hear or see on social media. They are not a true reflection of what is happening in our country,” Akpabio added.
The Senate President also spoke on women’s participation in politics, saying the actions of some women who previously held public office had discouraged support for female candidates during elections.
According to him, this has contributed to the reluctance of some women to support one another in politics.
Akpabio also pledged the support of the National Assembly for the forthcoming international ladies’ golf tournament scheduled to hold at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Earlier, Ahmed thanked the Senate President for receiving the delegation and formally invited him to the tournament.
She also decorated Akpabio as the Grand Patron of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria.
