The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has extended the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session by 27 days (from 31 January 2026 to 27 February 2026).
Truth Live News Media reports that the act establishing NELFUND was signed on 3 April 2024.
The purpose was to provide interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions for tuition and upkeep.
While established in April, the application portal officially opened in May 2024.It repealed the 2023 Act to create a more functional, student-friendly loan framework.
Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director, Strategic Communications, NELFUND, in a statement, said that the decision was targeted at giving prospective applicants additional time to complete and submit their applications, ensuring that no eligible student is excluded due to timing constraints.
Similarly, the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, said the extension reflects NELFUND’s commitment to inclusivity and access.
According to him “We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund.”
He encouraged all prospective applicants who are yet to apply or complete their applications to take advantage of the extended deadline and ensure that all required information is submitted on or before 27 February 2026.
