The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has boldly challenged Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo by declaring a complete sit-at-home across the Southeast on Monday, February 2, 2026, in solidarity with beleaguered Onitsha traders.
In a statement issued by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group described the action as a “peaceful” response to what it calls Soludo’s “tyrannical” measures against traders who observe Monday sit-at-homes.
This comes after Soludo ordered traders in Anambra to resume Monday activities and threatened severe penalties, including market shutdowns, for non-compliance.
“The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, under the leadership of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, hereby declares a Biafra-wide solidarity strike, a complete lockdown of all economic activities across Igboland and wider Biafran territories, on Monday, February 2, 2026,” the statement read in part.
It further emphasized: “This total shutdown across Biafraland is a direct, peaceful, and unified response to the tyrannical actions of Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, who has shut down the Onitsha Main Market for one week and threatened further month-long closures, revocation of land ownership, demolition, and punitive repurposing if traders continue their legitimate observance of Monday sit-at-home in solidarity with our unjustly imprisoned leader.”
The declaration extends to all five Southeast states, potentially disrupting economic activities in the region amid ongoing tensions over IPOB’s calls for the release of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Authorities have yet to respond to the latest announcement.
