The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has shown 28 students of the institution the exit door for indulging in cultism, result falsification and examination malpractice.
In press statement made available to Journalists by the Acting Director of Information of the institution, Habib Yakoob, said the decision to dismiss the students was taken at the institution’s senate meeting.
He said the action followed consideration of the report and recommendations of the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC).
Yakoob said the affected students were accused of offences including threat to life, assault, conspiracy, burglary, theft, cult-related activities, possession and use of hard drugs, and falsification of ‘O’ Level results uploaded to the university portal for admission.
The Acting Director of Information added that some were also said to have failed to appear before the disciplinary committee despite repeated invitations.
He maintained that the senate further approved the withdrawal of certificates of 15 former students who ignored several invitations by the committee.
He said nine students were exonerated after investigations, while 33 others received warnings over infractions such as conspiracy, hostel racketeering and fighting.
He noted that the Vice-Chancellor, Hakeem Fawehinmi, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.
He stressed that academic integrity remains sacrosanct and said the institution would continue to enforce its rules without compromise.
Fawehinmi also commended the SDC for its thorough handling of the cases and urged students to conduct themselves responsibly to safeguard their academic pursuits.
