The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has received licenses for trainings on Coursera that students can attend for free (FOC), as part of an effort to boost students’ employability by providing them with future-ready skills, up-to-date information, and relevant certificates. This is being done as part of efforts to equip students with these things.

The African Engineering and Technology Network (AFRETEC) is the organization that is providing sponsorship for the Free Coursera Courses for Students Project, while the MasterCard Foundation is the organization that is providing financing for the project. AFRETEC is a consortium of six (6) institutions in Africa that are working together to advance inclusive digital transformation across Africa. The University of Lagos in Nigeria, the American University in Cairo in Egypt, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, the University of Rwanda in Kigali, and Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania are all members of this consortium.
