Iranian state media has reported the death of Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, wife of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, following injuries sustained during recent U.S.-Israeli airstrikes.
According to Iran’s state television outlet Press TV, Bagherzadeh, 79, had been in a coma since Saturday after the strikes that reportedly killed Khamenei. She was said to have succumbed to her injuries on Monday. However, Israel’s The Times of Israel reported her age as 78, noting that she and Khamenei were married in 1964.
The developments come amid escalating hostilities between Iran, the United States, and Israel. Over the weekend, U.S. and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on Iranian targets following weeks of heightened tensions. Shortly after the attacks, Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia.
On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the death of Khamenei, describing him in strong terms in a post on Truth Social. Trump characterized the development as “justice” for victims of alleged Iranian-backed actions across the region and beyond.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military confirmed additional casualties linked to the ongoing conflict. In a post on X, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the number of American service members killed in action had risen to four. Three deaths were announced over the weekend, while a fourth service member who had been seriously wounded during Iran’s initial response later succumbed to injuries.
CENTCOM added that major combat operations remain ongoing and that U.S. response efforts continue as tensions in the region show no immediate signs of easing.
