Kano Governor Sacks Head Of Service

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has relieved the state Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his appointment with immediate effect.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Tofa.

According to the statement, the decision forms part of the administration’s efforts to reposition the state civil service for improved efficiency, discipline and better service delivery across government institutions.

“The decision forms part of the ongoing efforts of the present administration to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline and improved service delivery across all government institutions,” the statement read in part.

The governor appreciated the outgoing Head of Service for his contributions and dedication to the service of the state during his tenure.

He wished him success in his future endeavours and commended his commitment to public service.

Governor Yusuf also directed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, to assume office as acting Head of Service pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.

The statement added that Musa had been instructed to hand over the affairs of the office to the acting Head of Service not later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The development comes amid recent political developments in Kano following Governor Yusuf’s reported defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress, a move that has triggered adjustments within the political and administrative structure of the state.

Observers say the changes have led to a wave of realignments among political appointees and government officials as the administration continues efforts to reform the state civil service.
