The United States and Israel have carried out air strikes on Iranian cargo vessels in port towns along the Gulf, according to Iranian media reports.
A local official in Hormozgan Province said at least 16 cargo ships were destroyed in the attacks on Friday. The vessels were said to belong to residents of the coastal towns of Bandar Lengeh and Bandar Kong.
The official, quoted by the Tasnim News Agency, described the incident as an “American–Zionist air attack”, claiming the ships were completely burnt.
There has been no immediate confirmation from either the United States or Israel regarding the reported strikes.
Details about casualties or the full extent of the damage remain unclear.
The reported attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with analysts warning that further escalation could have wider implications for security and trade in the Gulf.
Ports in southern Iran, particularly in Hormozgan Province, are strategically important for shipping routes and regional commerce.
