In commitment to education and healthcare development in Edo State, the First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, led the commissioning of the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Clinic in Benin City.
Representing Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie (Esq.) commended Mrs. Betsy Obaseki for her unwavering dedication to the welfare of the girl child, education development, and quality healthcare service delivery.
Ogie extended congratulations to the esteemed alumni, the students, and the venerable teachers present, religious and traditional leader, recognizing their vital role in shaping the nation’s future.
In her address, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki expressed gratitude to all attendees, emphasizing Governor Obaseki’s commitment to improving healthcare, which he has demonstrated in transitioning from Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) to Modern Government Clinics Managed by Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) as exemplified at the FGGC Clinic.
The Edo State First Lady noted the significance of the Clinic’s establishment as a means of giving back to her alma mater and ensuring that students have access to top-notch healthcare services.
Furthermore, Mrs. Obaseki encouraged the students to uphold the school’s cultural heritage and anthem, stressing the importance of maintaining their identity amidst societal changes. She also appreciated the alumni, the foundation, and all parties involved in bringing the clinic to fruition, including the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sam Alli, and the Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen.
Commenting on his decision to change the nomenclature from Primary Healthcare, Maternity, and Health Centre to Government Clinics Managed by EDSPHCDA, Dr. Izedonmwen thanked the Governor, noting that this is the new face of what Primary Healthcare Centres now known as Government Clinics will look like
The Principal of FGCC, Mrs. Aghedo Osamudiamen, welcomed Mr. Osarodion Ogie (Esq), who represented His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and applauded the Governor’s wife for her dedication to ensuring access to quality healthcare, and for her support to the growth of the College, touching the lives of people for years to come.
Mrs. Eyonoma Fathai Williams, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, FGGC expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her pivotal role in commissioning the school’s clinic, expressing pride in her role in supporting the girl child, to improve their health and education.
The students entertained the guests in a traditional Benin chorus thanking the First Lady for bringing quality healthcare to the school.
