Super Eagles Head Coach, George Finidi, has revealed why he chose to include only three home-based players in the national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
According to Finidi, the decision was made to strike a balance between nurturing local talent and maintaining the team’s overall strength.
“We wanted to give opportunities to home-based players, but also ensure we have a competitive edge,” Finidi explained at a pre-match press conference in Uyo.
Truth Live News reports that Finidi, with this development, aims to gradually integrate more domestic players into the team without disrupting the existing dynamics, an approach, he said would benefit the Super Eagles in the long run.
