Prominent Nigerian political figures have gathered in the capital, Abuja, to honour the late mother of former Kaduna State governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.
The Janazah, an Islamic funeral prayer, for Hajiya Umma El-Rufai was held on Sunday at the National Mosque Abuja, drawing a large number of dignitaries and mourners.
Among those in attendance were former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. Also present were Nigeria’s National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

Videos shared on social media showed some of the attendees arriving at the mosque, exchanging greetings with fellow mourners before joining the congregation for prayers.
In a message posted on his X account, Mr Abubakar confirmed his presence at the funeral and expressed condolences to the El-Rufai family, praying for comfort for those grieving and for the deceased to be granted eternal rest.

Other notable figures included former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, alongside several political associates and well-wishers.
Following the prayers, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai was laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery, where family members and close associates gathered for the final rites.
