AS Monaco are seeking to terminate Paul Pogba’s contract early, with the Ligue 1 club reportedly aiming to reach a mutual agreement with the midfielder before September 1, 2026.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported the development on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, saying Monaco had informed Pogba’s representatives of their desire to end his two-year contract.
“AS Monaco offer contract termination to Paul Pogba. Club want to mutually terminate his deal by September 1st to let Paul find a new club this year. Decision up to Pogba (now injured) but AS Monaco informed his camp,” Romano wrote on X.
Pogba joined Monaco in June 2025 on a two-year deal after returning to professional football following an 18-month doping suspension.
His first season at the club was disrupted by injury, limiting his playing time and preventing him from establishing himself as a regular member of the team.
The arrival of Filipe Luis as Monaco’s new manager, replacing Sébastien Pocognoli, has also reportedly contributed to uncertainty over Pogba’s place in the club’s midfield plans.
Pogba, who is currently injured, must now decide whether to accept Monaco’s proposal and leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
The 33-year-old was initially handed a four-year ban after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) following a doping test in August 2023.
He maintained that the positive result was accidental, saying he had unknowingly taken a supplement containing the banned substance.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport later reduced his suspension to 18 months, allowing him to return to professional football in March 2025.
If the proposed termination is completed, Pogba’s spell at Monaco will end after just one season, leaving the 2018 World Cup winner to search for another club.
