Following the Edo governorship election, Yiaga Africa has called for an investigation into INEC officials allegedly involved in manipulating results and other electoral malpractices. This demand was made in a post-election statement signed by Dr. Aisha Abdullahi, Chair of the 2024 Edo, and Samson Itodo, Executive Director of Yiaga Africa.
According to Yiaga Africa, reports from sampled polling units revealed inconsistencies in the officially announced results by INEC officials ¹. The organization emphasized that it can only verify the election outcome if it falls within its estimated margins. If the official results exceed these margins, it may indicate manipulation.
Yiaga Africa’s statement highlighted: “Yiaga Africa can project the expected vote shares for each party within a narrow margin… However, Yiaga Africa is only able to verify the election outcome if it falls within its estimated margins.”
*Key Concerns:*
– _Inconsistencies in announced results_
– _Potential manipulation of election outcomes_
– _Need for investigation into INEC officials’ conduct_
Yiaga Africa’s call for investigation comes amidst concerns over electoral integrity in Nigeria. The organization has been actively involved in election observation and advocacy for democratic reforms.
