Pastor Tunde Bakare, the General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, has sparked debate with his claim that some developed nations view Nigeria’s development as a threat to their global interests.
Truth Live News gathered that while speaking in London, he emphasized that these nations may prefer Nigeria to remain stagnant. However, he also attributed much of Nigeria’s challenges to internal corruption and elite interests that resist change for personal gain.
Bakare, a long-time advocate for good governance, noted that while he supports relationships with institutions like the World Bank and IMF, Nigeria’s leadership must be cautious in dealing with global powers. He argued that Nigeria’s political elite exploit the system for their benefit, perpetuating corruption and stifling progress.
In his sermon titled “Celebrating God’s Legacy – Honouring the Past and Celebrating the Future,” Bakare called for a shift in focus from superficial legacy building to addressing the root causes of the nation’s struggles.
A well-known critic of bad governance, Bakare has previously highlighted issues such as multidimensional poverty and hunger, which affect millions in Nigeria. His activism, dating back to his days as a lawyer under Gani Fawehinmi, has consistently pushed for integrity and reform. Bakare’s political ventures, including his vice-presidential candidacy alongside Muhammadu Buhari in 2011, further underline his commitment to national transformation despite the challenges he has faced in both politics and activism.
