CALABAR – Coss River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, signalled strategic collaboration with Sultana to deepen participation in Nigeria’s expanding creative economy.
The assurance came during a courtesy visit by the reality television finalist and her team at the governor’s country home in Adiabo, Odukpani.
Framing the engagement within the Easter season, the governor described the visit as symbolic, sacrificial, and timely for advancing shared development objectives.
“Your visit during this sacred Easter season is deeply appreciated, reflecting sacrifice, commitment, and meaningful connection to Cross River people and aspirations,” Otu stated.
He emphasised that the administration prioritises relationships with indigenes and partners whose achievements project the state’s identity within national and global cultural spaces.
“In Cross River, we stand firmly by our own wherever they may be, recognising excellence and reinforcing bonds that sustain pride,” he said.
The governor commended Sultana’s rise on Big Brother Naija, noting that her resilience reflects determination required to succeed on competitive national platforms.
“It is no small feat reaching such heights on a fiercely contested platform; your courage and resilience remain truly commendable,” he added.
Anchoring his remarks on policy direction, Otu linked the engagement to broader plans positioning Cross River as a leader within Nigeria’s creative and tourism economy.
He explained that government investments increasingly target cultural production, tourism infrastructure, and talent development to drive inclusive growth and employment generation across sectors.
“The creative economy represents the future, and we welcome your willingness to serve Cross River in capacities that align with our strategic vision,” Otu said.
He added humorously that formal agreements would precede public celebration, stating authorities must first define exposure frameworks and engagement structures before broader recognition unfolds.
Policy analysts within the state’s Ministry of Information said the collaboration aligns with ongoing efforts to leverage entertainment platforms for tourism visibility and revenue diversification.
They noted that Cross River’s branding strategy increasingly integrates influencers, creatives, and cultural ambassadors to expand reach beyond traditional government communication channels.
Projecting long-term ambition, Otu declared that Cross River aims to become Nigeria’s foremost destination for culture, heritage tourism, and creative expression within coming years.

“We are deliberately building foundations that will position Cross River as the next destination for culture, heritage, and social expression,” he affirmed.
He stressed that partnerships with emerging and established talents remain central to achieving visibility, competitiveness, and sustainability within Nigeria’s evolving creative economy landscape.
According to him, collaboration frameworks will identify areas spanning tourism promotion, entertainment production, youth engagement, and digital storytelling for maximum developmental impact statewide.
The governor further assured that institutional backing would support Sultana’s growth trajectory, describing government as an enabling catalyst for sustained progress and expanded opportunities.
“Now that you have attained this level, we will remain part of that engine supporting your growth towards even greater heights,” he said.
He disclosed plans for follow-up technical sessions involving relevant stakeholders to define operational details, timelines, and measurable outcomes for the proposed collaboration initiative.
.
“In not too long, we will reconvene for structured discussions to bring stakeholders together and establish synergy, direction, and measurable objectives,” Otu added.
Officials familiar with the visit said Easter timing limited broader engagements, but preparatory work for formal partnerships would commence immediately after the holiday period.
Earlier, Sultana commended the governor’s leadership, highlighting achievements in infrastructure development, tourism promotion, and state rebranding within a relatively short governance period.
“Your commitment to infrastructural development and tourism promotion has not gone unnoticed, and the progress recorded remains inspiring and commendable,” she stated.
She expressed readiness to deploy her public influence in support of Cross River’s tourism drive, particularly through visibility campaigns targeting domestic and international audiences.
“It is my earnest desire to leverage my platform to support your administration and amplify Cross River’s beauty, culture, and unique experiences,” Sultana said.
She specifically referenced Carnival Calabar as a major platform capable of attracting global attention when effectively promoted through digital storytelling and influencer engagement.
“I humbly offer myself as an ambassador for tourism to help amplify Carnival Calabar and showcase our cultural richness,” she added.
The reality television finalist further indicated flexibility in service, noting willingness to contribute across multiple sectors within the creative ecosystem as directed by government.
“I am open to contributing in any capacity deemed fit, whether promoting the carnival or strengthening the creative industry’s visibility nationally and globally,” she affirmed.
Family ties to Cross River, she explained, continue to shape her emotional connection, reinforcing commitment to initiatives that promote the state’s cultural identity and economic prospects.
She expressed optimism that strategic collaboration between government and creatives would accelerate Cross River’s emergence as a leading destination for tourism and cultural excellence.
“With the right collaboration, Cross River will continue to rise as a leading destination for tourism and cultural excellence,” she noted.
Stakeholders in Nigeria’s entertainment industry have increasingly highlighted state-level partnerships as critical drivers of growth, especially amid rising demand for local content and experiential tourism.
Experts argue that leveraging personalities with established audiences offers cost-effective pathways for states seeking to strengthen brand identity and attract investment into creative sectors.
Cross River has historically positioned itself as a tourism hub, with policymakers now expanding focus towards digital engagement and creative enterprise development to sustain competitiveness.
The emerging partnership with Sultana, analysts say, reflects a broader shift towards integrating entertainment personalities into governance-driven economic strategies across Nigerian states.
Observers also note that aligning cultural festivals, creative talent, and policy frameworks could unlock new revenue streams while strengthening youth participation within the state’s economy.
As discussions advance, expectations remain high that structured collaboration between government and creatives will translate into measurable gains for tourism, employment, and cultural preservation.
The development underscores growing recognition of the creative economy as a viable pathway for economic diversification, particularly in states seeking alternatives to traditional revenue sources.
For Cross River, officials insist the engagement represents not merely symbolic interaction but a deliberate step towards building a sustainable, globally competitive creative ecosystem.
