US Supreme Court Denies Trump’s Request to Delay Sentence

US president-elect, Donald Trump, has once again faced disappoinment in his bid to delay his sentencing in his hush-money case.

The US Supreme Court on Thursday declined to delay the upcoming sentencing of the president-elect.

Recall that Donald Trump would be sworn in as US President on January 20th.

In view of this, he asked the US’s highest legal body to call off Friday’s (today) sentencing.

This was after a New York court earlier refused to postpone the sentencing by Judge Juan Merchan.

Juan Merchan presided over the trial of Trump in May 2024 on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Trump pleaded not guilty to any of that. Merchan made it clear that there is no jail time, fines or probation imposed but lawyers to the president-elect are arguing that a felony conviction would still have intolerable side-effects.

They share the opinion that this may even distract their client as he prepares to take office in just over a week’s time.
