“…Mustapha Aminu was Found Guilty of Attacking Sergeant on Duty…”
A Chief Magistrates’ Court has sentenced 36-year-old driver Mustapha Aminu to 15 strokes of the cane for assaulting a police officer, Sergeant Adamu Maigari, on duty in Kaduna State.
Aminu, who lives in Ungwan Sanusi, admitted to the crime after he was charged with hitting the officer on the head with a log of wood.
Magistrate Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel declared, “This will also serve as a warning to others who may consider committing such crimes. I hereby order a court official to administer 15 strokes of the cane,” emphasizing that the punishment was meant to show the seriousness of the offense.
Emmanuel further cautioned Aminu, advising him to avoid such behavior in the future and concentrate on his job to contribute positively to society.
Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, informed the court that the incident occurred on January 29 at approximately 2 p.m. when Aminu, driving recklessly, attacked the officer after being stopped. According to Leo, the assault violated Section 237 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
This ruling serves as a stern reminder of the consequences of attacking law enforcement officers while they carry out their responsibilities.
