Return My Dog’: Victim Speaks Out Following Arrest of Nigerian Crime Spree Suspect

Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting

Olaolukitan Adon Abel, 26, a United States resident of Nigerian origin, has been nabbed in link with a deadly shooting spree that left two women dead and a man fatally wounded in three apparently random attacks across DeKalb County and Brookhaven, both in the state of Georgia, early Monday.

Authorities said Abel was taken into custody without incident later Monday in Troup County by Georgia State Patrol troopers after a multi-agency manhunt.

Police credited license-plate reader cameras with tracking a silver Volkswagen Jetta rental car linked to him as it left one of the crime scenes.

A bloody knife was found inside the vehicle, according to arrest warrants.

DeKalb County police and Brookhaven police described the shootings as unprovoked and random, with no known connections between Abel and the victims.

The attacks unfolded over roughly seven hours.

Around 1 a.m. outside a Checkers restaurant on Wesley Chapel Road in DeKalb County, a woman was shot multiple times. She later died at a hospital.

About an hour later, shortly before 2 a.m., a 49-year-old homeless man sleeping outside the Kroger at Cherokee Plaza on Peachtree Road in Brookhaven was shot multiple times and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Around 6:50 a.m. on Battle Forest Drive near Manassas Lane in DeKalb County, 40-year-old Lauren Bullis was fatally shot and stabbed while walking her dog.

Witnesses reported seeing a man standing over her before he fled after gunfire.

Abel faces two counts of malice murder in DeKalb County, plus aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in Brookhaven.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He waived his first appearance in DeKalb County magistrate court on Tuesday, April 14, and the case was referred to superior court.

The court records show Abel — previously identified in records in Savannah, Georgia as Adon Olaolukitan — had prior convictions that include a 2025 misdemeanor sexual battery case in Chatham County, where he pleaded guilty to inappropriately grabbing four women.

He was sentenced to probation and was still under supervision at the time of Monday’s spree.

He also reportedly had a felony conviction in California in 2024.

In a joint press conference, DeKalb and Brookhaven police emphasized the random nature of the attacks and urged the public to remain vigilant while the investigation continues.

Bullis’s family has been cooperating with authorities and is seeking the return of her dog, Sancho, which was with her at the time of the attack.
