Just In: ADC Expels Nafiu Bala, 10 Others

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expelled 11 members, including a sitting House of Representatives member, for alleged anti-party activities and gross violations of the party’s constitution.

The expulsions, which were formally ratified yesterday during the party’s National Convention in Abuja, target high-profile figures such as Hon. Leke Abejide, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, and Alhaji Nafiu Bala Gombe, a notable party chieftain. The list also includes other senior members accused of undermining the party’s unity and leadership.

A statement issued by the ADC National Secretariat Malan Bolaji Abdullah described the disciplinary action as “necessary to protect the integrity and future of the party.”

The decision was moved as a formal motion and unanimously endorsed at the convention presided over by the National Chairman, Senator David Mark.“These individuals have consistently engaged in acts that are inimical to the progress and cohesion of the ADC,” the statement read.

“Their actions include open disloyalty, sabotage of party programs, and flagrant disregard for the party’s constitution. The National Executive Committee has therefore exercised its powers to expel them with immediate effect.

”The purge comes at a critical time as the ADC positions itself as a viable opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections. Senator Mark, a former Senate President, has been working to reposition the party as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).Party insiders say the expulsions are part of a broader strategy by the Mark-led faction to resolve lingering leadership crises and present a united front. The ADC has been grappling with internal wrangling following its registration as a political party and recent efforts to attract defectors from other parties.
