NIGERIA, ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said 69,376 Nigerians pre-registered online within seven hours after the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal went live on Monday.
According to the Commission, the online platform opened at 8:30 a.m. and by 3:30 p.m., thousands of citizens had submitted their pre-registration details.
INEC disclosed that of the total figure, 33,803, representing 48.7 percent, were men, while 35,573, or 51.3 percent, were women.
It added that young people dominated the exercise, with 48,033 registrants, or 69.2 percent, aged between 18 and 34 years.
“The online registration portal is available round the clock, every day of the week, at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org,” INEC announced in its statement.

The Commission said physical registration will begin on August 25, 2025, at 811 state and local government offices nationwide, operating weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, explained that online and in-person registration will run simultaneously throughout the exercise.
He noted that weekly updates will be provided, including breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation and disability, to keep the process transparent and inclusive.
Olumekun stressed that voter registration is only open to Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above who are yet to register, warning against double or multiple entries.
He added that inter-state and intra-state voter transfers, as well as replacement of lost or damaged cards, would be allowed during the CVR.
