Momodu Denies VP Ambition with Atiku, Backs Opposition Coalition

Media entrepreneur and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to run as a vice-presidential candidate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that he has no intention of contesting any election.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Momodu described the circulating claim as a distraction and urged supporters to disregard it.

“When I first received this poster from a friend, I dismissed it as a joke designed to distract us… I will be most grateful if my friends and party members can do me the honour of ignoring this joke,” he said.

He added, “I’m not running for any race again. I’m interested in humbly supporting the coalition of political parties to work together and oust the incompetent APC government.”

Momodu said he would instead support candidates within the African Democratic Congress, noting that there are “more than enough leaders” in the party who are better suited to contest.

His comments come amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures exploring coalition strategies to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He also criticised what he described as the “bullying” of Atiku Abubakar, pointing out that Peter Obi had previously run alongside him in the 2019 presidential election.

Momodu called for restraint in political discourse, cautioning against abusive rhetoric across party lines, including attacks on President Bola Tinubu.

He maintained that he would support whichever candidate emerges from his party, emphasising that his priority remains coalition-building within the opposition.

The development highlights ongoing efforts among opposition figures to strengthen alliances and resolve internal differences ahead of the 2027 elections.
