Obi, Kwankwaso Set to Dump ADC Monday — Galadima

The Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima, has hinted at a major political realignment, revealing that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, will announce a new political platform on Monday.

Galadima made the disclosure on Saturday at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja, amid growing uncertainty over opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Although he did not name the platform, sources close to the development said both leaders were concluding plans to join a newly floated political party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, reportedly linked to former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Seriake Dickson.

A source familiar with the discussions, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the two politicians and their allies had been meeting to finalise documentation.

“Both Obi, Kwankwaso and their chieftains were on ground between yesterday and this morning signing the relevant documents with Senator Dickson and the NDC leadership.

“All is now set. Both Obi and Kwankwaso will announce their defection from the ADC on Monday,” the source said.

The planned move follows weeks of speculation over the next political destination of the two opposition figures, particularly in the wake of recent developments affecting opposition parties and internal party structures.

Addressing journalists, Galadima warned supporters to brace for possible backlash following the announcement, including coordinated criticism from columnists and social media influencers.

He urged supporters, especially those active online, to respond strategically and avoid unnecessary provocation.

Galadima also alleged that opposition figures had faced sustained pressure, including harassment and detention, while claiming that several political parties had been weakened in recent times.

Also speaking at the event, Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, expressed support for the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance, describing it as a credible alternative.

Activist Aisha Yesufu, who also addressed the gathering, called for unity across ethnic and regional lines, urging Nigerians to prioritise national cohesion over division.
