Former Kano State Governor and former Minister of Defence, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has broken his silence over growing speculation surrounding his political future, issuing a detailed clarification on his next political move and alleged presidential ambition.
In a statement released via his verified official X account, as monitored by Truth Live News International, Kwankwaso dismissed reports suggesting that he had taken a final decision on possible political realignment amid the current challenges facing the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
He stated categorically that no final decision has been taken regarding his political future or that of his political associates.
Kwankwaso said recent legal developments involving the ADC had placed the party in a difficult position. According to him, while the Supreme Court judgment affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark led National Working Committee, NWC, it also remitted the matter back to the High Court, leaving the party in what he described as a precarious position.
He also cited a recent Federal High Court ruling which, according to him, delegitimised the party’s recent convention, as well as the reported move by the Attorney General of the Federation seeking the deregistration of the ADC.
The former governor noted that he and his political associates left the NNPP because of externally influenced legal problems which made their continued stay perilous, adding that the ADC has now been pushed into a similar crisis.
Consequently, Kwankwaso disclosed that wide ranging consultations have commenced with leaders of the NDC, PRP and other political stakeholders to explore the best options for protecting their democratic interests.
On the issue of presidential ambition, Kwankwaso denied declaring any intention to run for president or endorsing any aspirant. He said the ADC has not yet zoned its presidential ticket or taken any decision on a candidate, describing all contrary speculations as premature and unfounded.
He recalled that in the 2014 APC presidential primary, he came second to former President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he later supported to victory, while Atiku Abubakar came third, Rochas Okorocha fourth, and the late Sam Nda Isaiah fifth.
He also recalled that in 2019, he contested the PDP presidential ticket and immediately supported the winner, Atiku Abubakar, serving as the campaign’s coordinator in the North.
Kwankwaso further explained that his absence from two recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to unavoidable personal commitments, adding that he promptly communicated his apologies to the party leadership.
He assured that he would continue to engage constructively at all levels, stressing that any definitive position on his political direction would be formally communicated through official channels at the appropriate time.
Truth Live News International will continue to monitor developments.
