Senator Joseph Ikpea of Edo Central Senatorial District has expressed support for Governor Monday Okpebholo’s proposal to fast-track the prosecution of suspected kidnappers and cultists, saying the move is crucial for strengthening public safety and ensuring timely justice in Edo State.
In a statement released from his country home in Ewatto, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Ikpea praised Governor Okpebholo for his firm and proactive approach to tackling crime, particularly the recent crackdown that led to the dismantling of kidnapping networks operating in several parts of the state.
He also praised the successful rescue of a woman abducted at Benin City’s popular Vegetable Market and the arrest of one of the suspects involved in the crime.
The senator also lauded Governor Okpebholo’s immediate directive to security agencies following the incident, pointing out that the swift response by the police and other security operatives led to the victim’s rescue and the apprehension of the gang member.
“Governor Okpebholo’s prompt action sends a strong message to criminal elements that there is no hiding place for them in Edo State.
“It also reassures residents that their safety remains a top priority,” Ikpea said.
He further applauded the governor’s continued support for security agencies, describing it as critical to ongoing efforts to combat insecurity across the state.
Reaffirming his commitment to security, Ikpea pledged to work closely with the state government and fellow lawmakers to ensure Edo Central and the entire state remain safe and secure.
The senator also renewed his call on residents to see security as a collective responsibility, stressing that active community involvement would make it increasingly difficult for criminals to operate within the state.
“When everyone participates in safeguarding their communities, criminal elements will either abandon their activities or leave the state altogether, knowing that Edo is no longer a safe haven for crime,” Ikpea said.
