Presidency Hits Back: Nigeria Is Not Under Siege Despite Security Lapses

Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has dismissed claims that Nigeria is under siege, insisting that ongoing security challenges in some parts of the country do not reflect the situation nationwide.

Truth Live News Media reports that he said this during an interview on ARISE News TV.

Onanuga accused opposition parties and sections of the media of exaggerating the country’s security concerns and creating the impression that insecurity has overwhelmed the nation.

While acknowledging the persistence of attacks, kidnappings, and other security threats in certain regions, the presidential aide maintained that such incidents should not be used to portray the entire country as unsafe.

According to him, the government remains committed to addressing security challenges and improving safety across the country, stressing that isolated incidents should not define Nigeria’s overall security outlook.

“They’re creating the impression that there’s insecurity everywhere. The media is not helping as well,” he said.

“They report insecurity as if the whole country is consumed with insecurity. There are security breaches and no one is disputing that.”

Onanuga maintained that the Federal Government was responding to security threats, while urging commentators to avoid portraying the country as being completely overwhelmed by insecurity.
