The widow of late Nollywood comic actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has appealed to Nigerians for support, revealing that she and her children are battling financial hardship and struggling to meet basic needs.
The appeal was made during a video interview with content creator King Mitchy, where the actor’s widow and children opened up about their living conditions following his death.
Speaking emotionally, Mrs Okafor disclosed that the family had been without electricity for nearly two months after their power supply was disconnected due to unpaid bills.
She also revealed that they now rely on water from a well because of their inability to afford essential household expenses.
“We fetch water from the well. I have not paid the house rent, and they have even cut off our electricity for two months now. We have had no light. Every night, we go around looking for a place to charge our phones. It has not been easy,” she said.
One of the actor’s daughters commended her mother for her resilience despite the challenges facing the family.
“I thank God for my mom. She does everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees and make us happy,” she said.
The widow further disclosed that her children risk being forced out of school due to unpaid tuition fees.
“Right now, they cannot go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she added.
King Mitchy, who conducted the interview, said assistance was being sought to help the family settle outstanding school fees, pay rent and restore electricity to their home.
Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most beloved comic actors, died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.
