The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral security alert circulating on social media, which claimed that a military helicopter dropped unidentified objects in a bush located between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu communities in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
The command described the report as a baseless alarm capable of creating unnecessary panic among residents and eroding public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said tactical operatives were immediately deployed to the area following the emergence of the online report to verify the claims.
According to him, investigations conducted at the alleged location found no evidence to support the report.
“Following the report, the command immediately deployed operatives to the area for verification and assessment. Findings so far revealed that the alleged location remains calm, with no suspicious objects or security concerns observed.
“Normal activities continue within and around the area, while security operatives maintain routine surveillance to ensure public safety and sustain public confidence,” the statement read.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, urged residents to remain vigilant but disregard the false narrative.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders to maintain peace and security across the state.
He also advised members of the public to verify security-related information through official channels and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
The command reiterated that there was no security threat in the area and urged residents to remain calm while going about their lawful activities.
