Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged baby factory in the Mowe area of the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children.
The command also arrested six suspects in connection with the operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Babaseyi said the operation was conducted at about 8am on Monday, August 24, at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, following sustained intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
The rescued pregnant women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also rescued during the operation.
The police spokesperson identified the suspects as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
Babaseyi said further intelligence-led investigations took police officers to a hospital within the Mowe area, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20, 2026.
According to him, Effiong was found receiving medical treatment at the hospital, but the whereabouts of her newborn remained unknown.
“The whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse in locating the infant,” the statement said.
The police said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Babaseyi said investigators would determine the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and prosecute anyone found culpable.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police to support efforts to protect children and other vulnerable persons.
The latest operation comes months after operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, busted an alleged baby factory in the Okuju, Ilado area of Badagry, Lagos State, on April 17, 2026.
During that operation, 18 pregnant women and 10 children were reportedly rescued, while two suspected operators of the facility were arrested.
