Meanwhile, the Cross River Government has announced a free medical outreach scheduled for November 24 to 28 at the Calabar Women and Children Hospital, Murtala Mohammed Highway.

A public notice from the organisers shows that the programme will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, providing medical consultations, general and specialised surgeries, ophthalmology, dental services and medications.

The outreach also includes health education, obstetrics and gynaecology services and laboratory investigations, offered through partnerships involving the Renewed Hope Initiative and other health organisations.

A coordinator involved in the planning said the initiative targets underserved communities. He explained that “the outreach is part of a wider commitment to reduce preventable illnesses and expand access to quality healthcare.”

Officials emphasised that the exercise prioritises vulnerable groups and aligns with ethical responsibilities of the state to bridge healthcare gaps, especially in low-income communities.

Stakeholders believe the outreach will complement ongoing reforms in service delivery, noting that improved health outcomes support productivity and social development across the state.

The state government urged residents to take advantage of the free services, assuring that qualified professionals will handle all procedures under strict public-health and safety protocols.
