South-West Governors Hold Emergency Security Summit in Ibadan

Governors of Nigeria’s South-West states have convened in Ibadan for an unscheduled emergency meeting aimed at addressing escalating security challenges in the region.

The meeting, hosted by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at the Governor’s Office in Agodi, brings together leaders from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states. All six governors are expected to participate in the closed-door discussions.

While officials have provided limited details, government sources say the gathering was urgently called to review emerging security threats and to strengthen ongoing regional cooperation efforts. The talks are also expected to touch on infrastructure development and strategic coordination under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).

A key item on the agenda is an assessment of the Amotekun Corps, the regional security outfit established to address local safety concerns. The governors are expected to examine the corps’ current operations and consider measures to boost its capacity in light of new challenges.

More updates are anticipated as the meeting progresses.
