Two days after suspected terrorists stormed a wedding in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State and abducted a bride along with several guests, the gunmen have contacted the family – but made no ransom demand.
Speaking to journalists in the village on Sunday, Daily Post revealed that the bride’s father, Malam Umaru Chacho, said the abductors called the family and insisted on being connected only to the community’s traditional ruler.
“When they called they said we should connect them with the traditional ruler of the town. We refused and asked them to speak to us instead, but they declined, insisting that they wanted to speak with our traditional ruler,” he said.
Malam Chacho confirmed that 13 persons – 11 females and two males – were taken during the attack, while several others sustained injuries.
“A relative of the bride who resisted the terrorists was shot and sustained a severe gunshot injury that almost took his life,” he said.
The distraught father also decried the deteriorating security in the area, noting that more than 30 residents of Chacho village have been killed in persistent bandit attacks over the past five years.
