A dramatic standoff unfolded at the PDP national secretariat on Monday as Samuel Anyanwu resumed office as National Secretary despite a Court of Appeal ruling affirming Ude Okoye as the legitimate occupant of the position.
Truth Live News gathered that tensions flared as police were deployed to maintain order amid the leadership dispute. Anyanwu, accompanied by supporters, entered the secretariat, led a prayer session in his office, and addressed journalists, declaring confidence in his ongoing appeal to the Supreme Court. He dismissed the PDP’s recent recognition of Okoye as National Secretary, describing it as a mere opinion of the national publicity secretary.
The dispute originates from Anyanwu’s temporary departure to contest the Imo State governorship election, which he lost. Okoye, who assumed the role during Anyanwu’s absence, argues that the position was forfeited. The PDP National Working Committee officially recognized Okoye on January 7, 2025, emphasizing respect for judicial rulings.
The situation at the secretariat remains tense, with the party divided over the contentious leadership battle.
