BREAKING: PDP Fires Back at Wike, Describes Media Outburst as “Political Swan Song”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a blistering attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following his latest media engagement, describing his comments as an embarrassing display of “political rascality, moral emptiness, crass opportunism, and post-loss trauma.”

In a strongly worded press statement obtained by Truth Live News International on Tuesday in Abuja, the party said Nigerians were subjected to what it termed an “unsolicited overdosage” of reckless political rhetoric by the former Rivers State Governor.

According to the statement signed by the PDP Interim National Working Committee’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the media session organised by Wike was “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,” adding that the former governor’s conduct has become both a national and international embarrassment.

The party said the statement was not necessarily a response to Wike’s alleged tirade, but rather an apology to Nigerians for previously giving him a political platform that elevated him to positions including Chairman, Minister of State, and Governor.

“We must acknowledge that if we did not lend our platform to make him a Chairman, Minister of State, and Governor, the nation would have been saved the unmitigated damage done to the psyche of countless Nigerians,” the statement read.

The PDP further urged individuals allegedly defamed by the minister during the media convergence to seek legal redress, insisting that no citizen should be above the law.

The party also dismissed insinuations surrounding Wike’s influence within the PDP, stressing that no office of “National Leader” exists within the party’s constitution, and maintained that even if such a position existed, the minister lacked the moral standing to occupy it.

The statement noted that the ongoing sale of nomination forms and preparations for party primaries ahead of the next national convention would continue despite what it described as attempts by Wike to destabilise the party on behalf of unnamed political interests.

“It will mean that he has failed in his promise to ‘hold down’ the party for his principal,” the PDP stated, adding that the party’s financial operations remain intact despite alleged threats against banks dealing with it.

On the lingering legal disputes within the opposition party, the PDP said it was awaiting the Certified True Copies of the dismissed cross appeals and challenged the minister to publicly explain the reliefs sought by his allies and the court’s final pronouncements.

The opposition party assured Nigerians that no amount of intimidation or propaganda would suppress what it described as the truth.

“Though lies like those vomited by Wike travel faster than the truth, they will not reduce the efficacy of the truth when it arrives,” the statement concluded.

The statement was signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, MNIPR, National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party
