
A tragic gas explosion in the Ajah area of Lagos has claimed two lives and left several properties destroyed following a collision between two heavy-duty vehicles.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday along the Lekki-Epe Expressway at Tera Ahmed bus stop in Sangotedo. Reports indicate that a speeding tipper truck rammed into a stationary gas tanker, triggering a massive fire outbreak.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that emergency responders from multiple stations were deployed after receiving the distress call around 2:36 a.m. The fire has since been brought under control.
According to authorities, the impact of the crash caused flames to spread to nearby structures, affecting three warehouses and about 10 roadside shops, including a gym and a generator house. However, firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from reaching a nearby petrol station and its fully loaded fuel tanker.
The two casualties , the driver of the tipper truck and his assistant lost their lives in the incident, while the driver of the gas tanker escaped unharmed.
Emergency teams also recovered several vehicles from the scene, including buses and a car, as cleanup operations continue. Efforts are ongoing to remove the wreckage, with normal activities gradually returning to the area.
