BREAKING: Obaseki, Former Council Chairmen In War Of Words Days To State Assembly Election

All appears not to be going well for Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his gradually imploding People’s Democratic Party, PDP, barely five days to the decisive State Assembly election in the state, after the governor engaged state council Chairmen in war of words over politics, policies and state finances.

Edo, while not having a governorship election on Saturday, like most of the 36 states, would be deciding on new set of state legislators on election day.

As learnt, it was highly charged atmosphere after resulted in Obaseki storming out of the meeting.

Some former Local Government Chairmen were brought to meet the state governor, facilitated by the commissioner for LGA affairs, Hon. Osaigbovo.

Also present at the meeting was Secretary to the State Government, Bar. Osarodion Ogie, and other government officials.

The governor had told the former LGA chairmen to do everything within their powers to make sure PDP candidates win the House of Assembly elections slated for 11th March.

In their varied response, some of the former council chairmen told the governor that they were not happy with the way things were being managed by Obaseki.

They also mentioned the wranglings in PDP, the blame of which were put squarely at the feet of the governor.

They were particularly miffed at the way Obaseki treated members of the party who accommodated them when they all left APC.

They said Obaseki should have been diplomatic in dealing with the old members of the PDP and the leadership of the party.

The former council chairmen who served under him in the last dispensation also reminded him in strong words that he almost put them in trouble by alleging financial crimes against them while they were in office.

They recalled how Obaseki caused what every council owed to be published in some newspapers.

According to them, they managed to get out of the mess only when they gave full accounts of how the government through the Secretary to the State Government, Ogie, was always coming from him to commandeer funds from the purse.

That explanation stopped their embarrassment.

According to the reliable source who was present at the meeting, the matter turned ugly.

Obaseki, at some point accused everybody of trying to put all blames at his feet.

“I tired of everything,” he was heard saying.

“Whatever will happen on Saturday, let it happene.

“Heaven will not fall,” Obaseki was said to have retorted before storming out of the meeting.
