Arguably the biggest news of the day. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State welcomed Senator Uche Ekwunife, the former Director-General of the South East Governors Forum, during a pivotal stakeholders’ meeting on December 2, 2023, in Awka, the state capital.
Senator Uche Ekwunife, born on January 12, 1970, has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics. A distinguished individual with a Ph.D. and the title of CON, she previously served as a Senator representing the people of Anambra Central Senatorial District of Anambra State. Known for her remarkable contributions, she is recognized as one of the most active female senators in the House.
Ekwunife’s political journey began in 2007 when she was elected as a representative for Anambra’s Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia constituency. Notably, she was part of the small group of 11 women elected in 2007 who successfully retained their positions in the 2011 elections, a significant achievement in a lower house dominated by nearly 95% males.
In 2015, Senator Ekwunife ascended to the Nigerian Senate, becoming one of the six women elected to the 8th National Assembly. Her reign was short cut when she switched parties and her seat was declared vacant.
Her political prowess and dedication were further evident in the 2019 Anambra State senatorial elections, where she triumphed under the People’s Democratic Party, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District. In a fierce contest, she defeated her 2015 rival, Victor Umeh, who sought reelection.
TruthLive News gathered that the reception of Senator Uche Ekwunife by the APC in Anambra State marks a very big political paradigm shift in scheme of things, recognizing the value, clout and following that Senator Ekwunife brings.
