2027: PDP Will Never Support Tinubu’s Re-election, Slams Wike Over Alleged Alliance With APC

By Truth Live News International | October 20, 2026

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly rejected suggestions that its candidates and members should abandon their political ambitions and support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, describing such a proposition as a dangerous attempt to undermine Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.

In a strongly worded press statement received by Truth Live News International on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the National Publicity Secretary of the party’s Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, condemned recent remarks attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, urging PDP candidates to collapse their political structures in favour of President Tinubu.

Ememobong maintained that Wike’s reported position was neither surprising nor representative of the genuine aspirations of committed PDP members, accusing certain political actors of masquerading as opposition figures while actively advancing the interests of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the PDP spokesperson, the call for opposition politicians to support the incumbent president was directed primarily at individuals whose political loyalties had long shifted away from the principles and objectives of the opposition party.

“The message is meant for persons who, like him, are pretenders in the opposition but are working for the governing party,” Ememobong declared.

He insisted that genuine and principled members of the PDP would neither participate in nor endorse political arrangements designed to strengthen the APC-led Federal Government, particularly in the face of what he described as its destructive policies and failures of governance.

The opposition spokesman argued that the fundamental responsibility of any credible opposition party in a democratic system was to present Nigerians with a viable alternative to the government in power, rather than surrender its independence through political accommodation.

He further maintained that any meaningful electoral alliance involving opposition political parties should be formed among parties seeking to replace the incumbent administration, rather than with the ruling party itself.

Ememobong expressed particular concern over what he described as the emergence of a so-called “rainbow coalition,” warning that such political arrangements could weaken democratic competition and undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.

Describing the development as a serious threat to the nation’s democratic future, he warned that the growing tendency of opposition politicians to align with the ruling establishment could gradually transform Nigeria’s electoral democracy into what he termed an “electoral monarchy.”

The PDP spokesman also addressed the party’s ongoing legal challenges, urging loyal members across the country to remain resolute while awaiting the outcome of proceedings before the Court of Appeal.

He disclosed that the party’s case had already been heard and that its leadership was awaiting judgment, expressing optimism that the judiciary would deliver a decision capable of restoring the party to what he described as its rightful owners.

“Our case at the Court of Appeal has been heard, and we await judgment. We know that the entire judiciary is conscious that justice delayed is justice denied,” he stated.

Ememobong further cautioned Nigerians against political arrangements that, in his assessment, were being presented as inclusive national cooperation while potentially facilitating elite accommodation and the concentration of political power.

He accused sections of the political establishment of promoting arrangements that could compromise the independence of opposition parties and deprive Nigerians of meaningful electoral choices.

The PDP spokesperson consequently urged Nigerians to approach the 2027 general election with renewed determination, describing the forthcoming polls as an opportunity to hold political leaders accountable and reject what he characterised as insensitive and irresponsible governance.

“The election next year provides a great opportunity to vote out these insensitive and irresponsible political actors,” he declared.

The statement, dated October 20, 2026, and signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, mnipr, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Interim National Working Committee, underscores the continuing political divisions surrounding Wike’s relationship with the ruling APC and the broader debate over opposition unity ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

While Wike serves as FCT Minister under President Tinubu’s APC-led administration, his continued association with the PDP has remained a contentious issue within opposition politics.

The latest declaration signals the determination of the PDP faction represented by Ememobong to resist any political arrangement that would require the party to surrender its opposition identity or endorse President Tinubu’s bid for another term.
