The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced ongoing efforts to restore power supply in parts of Lagos after a major outage caused by a fire incident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
In a statement released on Saturday, March 21, 2026, the company said the disruption was triggered by a vehicle collision involving a stationary gas tanker, which led to a fire outbreak.
According to EKEDC, the incident caused extensive damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including critical conductors and overhead line equipment, resulting in widespread power disruption across affected areas.
“Please be informed that the current power outage was caused by a fire incident that occurred last night following a vehicle collision with a stationary gas tanker.
“The resulting fire led to significant damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including critical conductors and overhead line equipment. This unexpected incident has disrupted the power supply in the affected areas,” the statement read.
The company assured customers that its technical team is working to replace the damaged components and restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible, while also apologising for the inconvenience caused.
EKEDC listed the affected areas to include Medallion Feeder (including Medallion Company), Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, and Onisan, all under the Ibeju 33kV feeder.
The outage follows a tragic gas explosion in the Ajah area of Lagos, which reportedly claimed two lives and destroyed several properties, including warehouses and roadside shops. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Tera Ahmed bus stop, Sangotedo, after a collision between a gas tanker and a tipper truck.
Residents in the affected communities have been advised to exercise caution as repair works continue, with EKEDC teams working to safely restore power to homes and businesses.
