A moment of chaos unfolded on the streets of Abuja on Friday after a civilian reportedly pulled out a firearm and pointed it at a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) during a heated confrontation, sparking widespread concern over public safety and the increasing brazenness of violent conduct in the Federal Capital Territory.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred during a routine vehicle inspection exercise when the VIO officer flagged down a driver for alleged traffic violations. What began as a verbal exchange quickly escalated into a tense standoff, as the driver described as visibly agitated reportedly exited his vehicle, reached inside, and produced a gun.
“The officer was just doing his job when the man suddenly lost his temper,” an eyewitness recounted. “Before anyone could understand what was happening, he had already brought out a gun and pointed it directly at the officer. It was terrifying.”
The confrontation caused panic in the area, with bystanders scrambling for safety as tensions soared. Some residents reportedly fled the scene, while others watched from a distance, stunned by the unfolding drama.
