Bendel Insurance Football Club have proceeded to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup 2023/2024 after defeating ASO Clef 4-3 on penalties at the Salem Mabrouki Stadium, Rouiba, Algiers, Algeria.
Bendel Insurance who had defeated ASO Clef 1 — 0 in the first leg of the first preliminary round at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City after Imade Osarenkhoe’s clinical goal in the 42nd minute were defeated 1 — 0 at the 90th minute.
ASO Clef pulled a stunning performance to defeat Bendel Insurance 1—0 at home to hone an aggregate score of 1—1 which was to be fought out at the penalty shootout.
Bendel Insurance goalie, Amas Obasogie pulled three penalty saves to end the run of ASO Clef as the penalty shootout ended in a 4—3 win in favour of Bendel Insurance.
The 2022 winners RS Berkane will play the Benin Arsenals in the following round the following month.
The competition’s lucrative group stage will be entered by the victor of the two-legged match.
The defending CAF Confederation Cup champions from Nigeria are taking part for the first time.
