I have not in recent times seen where people will choose to cry more than the bereaved. Unfortunately, in Edo State, that is what the APC has chosen to do concerning the choice of a new Deputy Governor to replace the impeached Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shuaibu.
The media space, especially the social media, has gone awashed with the APC sympathizers crying louder than the PDP members. They are showing more concern and wailing that by choosing Omobayo Marvelous Godwins, the PDP has shot itself on the foot thereby throwing away all the votes in Edo North Senatorial District. One sympathizer gave the APC 85% of the total votes that will come from Edo North. They are crying that the choice should have been from a particular set of the party.
Let me thank all our sympathizers for their show of concern and shedding tears on our behalf. Let them be informed that the choice of Omobayo Gidwins was made by the leaders of the PDP in Edo North and we are comfortable with it.
Edo North is made up of 6 local governments broken into 3 distinct segments ie Owans, Akokos and Etsakos. The PDP did not remove the position from Edo North but merely decided to balance the political tripod in Edo North. Since the Owans have the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and the Etsakos have the Minister and Senator, it is only fair and just that the Akokos should be given the Deputy Governor. If being just and fair will make us loose the votes of the entire Edo North, we shall be fulfilled but I can assure you that the reverse will be the case.
The choice of the youthful Omobayo has demostrated the confidence the PDP has in the youth population. If the APC only of recent could be celebrating the news of an Ogbeide Ihama taking up the depury governorship candidacy, when he never indicated any interest in joining their party, why are they the ones wailing that the PDP has chosen a former labour party member as the new deputy governor?.
As for crying on behalf of any group within the PDP, let our sympathizers know that we have gone beyond that. Never again will we allow the blind sentiments that led to some members of the PDP voting against their party in the last general elections happen again. That is what has brought this see finish. It has been proven from experience that the worst of PDP is better than the best of APC. So I advise the APC sympathizers not to weep now because they will have a lot of wailing and crying to do after September 21st. They should reserve their energies till then.
