40 Days After Wedding, 19-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Poisons Husband-Police

BAUCHI STATE – Just 40 days after her wedding, a 19-year-old woman, Aisha Musa, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly putting a poisonous substance in her husband’s meal.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area, with the victim subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment.

Sahara Reporters, citing a statement attributed to the Bauchi State Police Command, reported that the alleged poisoning was brought to police attention after a distress call was received from an unidentified woman residing in the Wunti Dada area of Bauchi.

According to the report, the police said the suspect allegedly introduced the poisonous substance into her husband’s meal at about 3:15 p.m. on the day of the incident.

The police reportedly said operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Tafawa Balewa Estate, responded to the report, evacuated the victim and took him to the teaching hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition.

“In a swift response, operatives of ‘C’ Division Tafawa Balewa Estate mobilized to the scene,” the police were quoted as saying.

The command reportedly added that the victim was immediately evacuated to the hospital and was receiving medical attention.

Following the incident, the suspect was arrested and, according to the police account reported by Sahara Reporters, allegedly made what the command described as a confessional statement during interrogation.

“During interrogation, she was cautioned and voluntarily made a confessional statement admitting to the commission of the offence,” the police were quoted as saying.

The police also reportedly recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance and remnants of the food as exhibits.

However, the alleged motive for the incident was not disclosed in the report, leaving unanswered questions about what may have led to the alleged poisoning.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, was reported to have directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a “discreet and thorough investigation.”

The police further said the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.

The development comes amid renewed public concern over domestic safety, with the case now expected to be subjected to further investigation before any determination of criminal responsibility
