Panic has swept through the community of Obagaji in Agatu Local Government Area as residents brace for a potential attack by armed herdsmen, following a viral security alert circulating on social media.
The alert, which emerged early Monday, warned of credible intelligence indicating that armed individuals may be advancing toward the area. It urged locals to stay vigilant, inform family members, and contact community leaders immediately to prepare for any threats. This has left many in the community and nearby settlements on edge, with reports of residents seeking reassurance and protection from security forces.
Community members have called on authorities to bolster security measures in the region and issue official updates to quell the rising anxiety and prevent widespread panic. As of now, no confirmation of the alleged threat has been provided by the Benue State Police Command or other security agencies.
The situation shows ongoing tensions in Benue State, where clashes between farmers and herdsmen have historically led to violence and displacement.
