The operatives of the Cross River State Police Command have arrested Ebino Mbang Ikpi for allegedly stabbing his 42-year-old friend, Ayei Ekpe Ibor, to death during a fight over a N500 gift in Kekoti, Ajere, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on September 27, 2026, after a misunderstanding broke out between the two friends over N500 allegedly given to them as a gift.
According to the police, the disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which Ikpi allegedly stabbed Ibor, a resident of Okonobngha, Ajere.
Ibor was confirmed dead following the attack, while the suspect reportedly fled the scene.
Police operatives launched a manhunt for Ikpi and subsequently arrested him at about 8:40 a.m. in his hideout in the Ajere-Ekori area.
The suspect has been detained in police custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
