Notorious Bandit Warlord, Kachalla Sani Yellow Eliminated

One of the Northwest’s most feared bandit commanders, Kachalla Sani Yellow, was killed on Friday, July 10, in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Local sources report that Yellow, long accused of orchestrating deadly raids, mass kidnappings, cattle rustling, and widespread displacement across Zamfara and neighboring states, was shot dead at Dan Jibga Market. Accounts of the killing diverge sharply.

Multiple residents claim armed men loyal to rival bandit leader Dogo Gide carried out a brazen daytime ambush while Yellow conducted activities at the market, pointing to intensifying turf wars among criminal factions. Other security insiders attribute his death to a coordinated counter-banditry operation involving troops and the Maiduguri Special Vigilantes recently deployed to the region.

As of Sunday, authorities have not issued an official confirmation favoring one narrative. Regardless, the removal of the influential warlord—who operated across forests spanning Anka, Bukkuyum, and Maru LGAs—marks a notable blow to bandit networks that have terrorized rural communities for years. The development has already triggered reprisals.

Armed groups suspected to be loyal to another commander, Adamu Aliero, attacked communities in nearby Tsafe LGA, killing at least two residents and abducting more than 60 others while looting food and livestock.

Troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA and police have ramped up patrols and pursuit efforts to rescue the victims and forestall further violence.Yellow’s elimination comes amid sustained offensives aimed at dismantling entrenched criminal enclaves in the North-West. While communities express cautious relief, the rapid retaliatory strikes underscore the fragile security situation and the complex interplay of factional rivalries and state interventions.
